As a technical author, I consider my main responsibilities as:

• Liasing with the client on terms of reference & datelines
• Gathering information from the client
• Transposing the information into technical format
• Adding descriptive comments and technical information
• Sourcing information for graphics & illustrations
• Presenting the information in an agreed format for verification
• Adding graphics, charts, tables, data lists & specifications to the document
• Working according to specified timelines
• Reviewing the deliverables & recording changes
• Implementing changes as requested
• Presenting the deliverables for final acceptance
• Recording completion of the project.

The Vee Model shows clearly the phases that influence my projects.

My involvement as technical author would normally be during the Test & verification phases when unit , integration & system testing are performed

In this model, “Implementation” could be the “manufacturing” phase of the project.

Software designers would refer to the Project definition side as a “Waterfall model”. The phase, “Implementation” is the part where software engineers actually program code for the project.
